Cairns
Like many others, it wasn’t until I moved to Brisbane for university in 2012 that I realised how much I loved growing up in Cairns. Surrounded by mountains lush with tropical rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef at your doorstep and countless swimming spots that puts others around Australia to shame.
I got my first DSLR in 2016 when I graduated and quickly found that photography for me was going to be an artform that I take with me as I explore every nook and cranny of FNQ. Cairns is stinky humid, there’s stingers in the water half the year, crocs meandering through every cane paddock drain - no where is safe. But with some local knowledge of the area one can really get lost in the rainforest or the sea. To walk barefoot through the rainforest to find waterfalls like Wallicher or Nandroya pumping in the wet season is what made me happy. Green therapy some would say, is something that Cairns locals have at their fingertips. No crowds, ample choice of outdoor adventures - it really is a paradise for the adventurous soul.
Thank you to all the souls who have ventured around this beautiful part of the world with me over the years.
